Hydrogen’s Value Proposition - a pillar of the energy transition

Hydrogen is a critical energy vector and a central pillar of the energy transition with all the flexibility of natural gas but none of the emissions. To reach our net-zero goals by or before mid century, it’s clear that deep decarbonization of our economy calls for vast grid integration of renewable energies. And, as the proportion of renewable energy grows, green hydrogen storage can buffer and stabilize the grid. Green hydrogen enables complimentary ‘sector coupling’ that enables interchange of energy to serve a range of demands. And it can be scaled to meet the challenge - it is estimated that hydrogen at scale could transact up to c. 25% of Europe’s energy demand by 2050. It is clear that the Blue and Green sectors are initially complimentary - both essential in kick-starting the hydrogen economy. But Green is a universal phenomenon that has immense power to equalize critical access to energy in regions and nations that are presently energy-poor, allowing the development of local commerce and the preservation of human dignity. That is true power.
